Give and Receive the Most from Lent This Year

AWAKE, O sleeper, and arise from the dead (“living like a corpse”),
And Christ shall shine upon you and give you light.” (Ephesians 5: 14)

The message of each new year’s Lenten time is “Awake and be transfigured.”
Each person’s life is a continuous journey: an adventure forever and a miracle always encountering Mystery.
Rise each morning, expectant and thankful to God for the gift of a new day.
The 46 days from Lent to Easter offer us a special opportunity to refine and inspire our living in the Light.
To find a focus for Lenten inspiration this year, I invite you to take one theme each week and center on it.
Try to embody each theme more each day. May this process bring you more deeply into Christ’s spirit this Easter

Easter Sunday:

The Resurrection of Christ

Triumph: Demonstrating Immortality
But be resolute ! I have overcome the world.

I am the Resurrection and the life.
The person who follows me will live even though he/she dies, and anyone who is alive and follows me will never die at all.
(John 16: 33; 11:25, 26)

I know your works. Neither do I condemn you... go and sin no more.
(Revelation 3:7; John 8:11)

I shall see you again, and your hearts will be full of joy, and that joy no one shall take from you. (John 16:22)

I and the Father are ONE (completely unified)….
May they all be ONE..., that they may be ONE, as we are ONE (united).
That You have loved them even as You have loved Me.
(John 10:30; 17:21, 22, 23)

I go to the Father; for the Father is mightier and greater than I am.
(John 14:28)

Behold, I have set before you an open door, which nobody is able to shut.
(Revelation 3:8)

And I...lifted up from the Earth, will draw all persons to me.
(John 12:32)

I am always with you, even to the end of the Age.
(Matthew 28:20)

"Lifted up," the risen Christ draws all persons to him. The living Christ, the first chosen from our humankind, holds the Office of the Lord of the Earth, and Lord of all religions, humanity and Angels. As such, the Lord Emmanuel IS "the King of Kings and Lord of Lords."

Working with his great Company of Heaven -other Lords, completed Souls and the Cloud of Witnesses, Angels and Archangels, and all the living cosmic Hierarchy of God's Light, the Christ calls us through the open door of Spirit into the infinite Love and deeper mysteries of Deity’s Holy Presence.

The risen Lord Christ has no need to return to Earth.

Through the Lord Christ’s final earthly incarnation as Jesus of Nazareth, with his healing ministry, transfiguration, crucifixion, resurrection and ascension, he has "overcome the world.”

His mighty and expansive spirit is always blessing the Earth, calling each of us to awaken and release fully the complete spectrum of our divine capacities; the Christ is inviting, embracing and permeating every life on this planet with vibrations of peace, love and righteousness.

Thus, Christ is here NOW and moves among us;
he is with us, inviting us into new dimensions of life;
by invitation he will abide in us always, as much as we can receive and absorb
his outreaching, loving and purifying presence.

The more Christ-like we become, the nearer the Christ “returns” to Earth.
This Easter he "comes again" to each of us, and we will “see him as he is,” according to our awakened capacity and willingness to receive him into our lives and welcome him into our hearts.
The living Christ is immediately available, luminous and radiant to all those who seek his presence in the Light; he walks among us more closely as we love God with our whole being, and he lives in us more brightly as we become a light and a blessing in God's world.

Christ the Lord stimulates each of us, inspiring us to awaken the Christ Light, our hope of glory and illumination.

Holy Saturday

Final Forgiveness

…the Kingdom of Heaven suffers violence and the violent take it by force…. Everyone who kills you thinks that he is offering service to God. These things they do because they have NOT known the Father or Me….
(Matthew 11:12; John 16: 2, 3)

Put your sword back into its sheath. Everyone who takes up the sword will perish by the sword. Do you suppose I am not able to call on my Father Who will put more than 12 legions of heavenly Messengers (Angels) at my disposal?
(Matthew 26: 52, 53)

Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. (Luke 6:37)

Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.
(Luke 23:34)

Jesus could have used violence and force to overcome his enemies. Yet, non-violently, he went to the cross. The Christ's way is always powerful but peaceful.

The kingdom can never be taken by force.

The Christ's way always advocates for justice and God's righteousness, achieved through love, dialogue, courage and peacemaking.
In attacking evil, always find ways to overcome evil with good.
Don’t add to the negativity you oppose.

And who really IS the enemy?

Is there any remaining anger or hostility in you?

If you must “fight,” or need to experience adrenaline discharge, fight with peacemaking.

In the forgiving power of the Christ Spirit, whom do you still need to forgive?

Come to peace and work for peace in the midst of the struggle and opposition.
Continue in your simple acts of kindness.
Pray continuously for peace in the world.
Take every possible step to bring peace into non-peaceful situations.
"Love all."

Good Friday

It is Finished (Consummated) !

That I might finish my course with Joy.
(Acts 20:24)

I have glorified You on Earth:
I have finished the work which You gave me to do.
(John 17:4)

Into Your hands I commend my spirit.
(Luke 23:46)

Take up your cross and follow me. (Matthew 16:24)

What still remains uncompleted -the remainder of your cross of unfinished karma that you feel strongly called to harmonize and master?

How will you finish what you know you came to put in order this lifetime?

What steps are you now taking?

"Take my life and let it be, always consecrated, Lord, to Thee."

Maundy Thursday

A New Commandment

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have been loving you, that you also love one another.

By this shall all persons know that you are my disciples, if you show love to one another.
(John 13: 34-35)

In the Upper Room Jesus shared his final hours with his disciples. He bathed their feet with water in a humble, cleansing and purifying ritual, thus activating all the nerves and energy circuits throughout the disciples' atomic, cellular, glandular, vascular and neural systems; he instituted the powerful ritual of the Last Supper, and he gave the new commandment, calling us to practice universal and inclusive love for all living beings.

In our love for one another, we will always be connected to the loving spirit of Christ.

In the new commandment, Jesus begins a new earthly cycle and interpersonal networking of possible universal and collaborative friendship – a new dimension of deep humane connection with God, growing through forgiveness, peace and love for all: to love each other as God loves us - totally.

Note Jesus Christ’s way of complete non-violence. He chooses the cross, not force, killing or bloodshed.

“However you give out to others, in like manner will persons deal with you…. Inasmuch as you have done it unto one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you have done it unto me…. And why do you call me Lord, Lord, and do not do the things which I say? ...Depart from me, you who practice lawlessness…. The Kingdom of Heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force…. Everyone who kills (you) thinks that s/he is doing service to God. These things they do because they have NOT known the Father or Me….. YOU SHALL NOT KILL; and whoever kills is subject to judgment…. I will have mercy, not sacrifice…. Put back your sword into its proper place…. All who take up the sword will perish by the sword.”
(Luke 6:38; Matthew 25:40; Luke 6:46; Matthew 7: 23b; 11:12;

John 16: 2b; Exodus 20:13; Matthew 5:2; Matthew 9: 13; 26:52)

Wisdom and Vulnerability

Become wise as serpents and innocent as doves. Become passers-by (wanderers). Be careful that nobody deceives you. You have come from the Light, where the Light has originated through itself.

Rise, take up your bed and walk on...
Friend, go up higher...
Take your stand in the midst of the world...
Awake and pray that you do not enter into temptation. Come…All things are ready. Follow me.
(Matthew 10:16; Thomas 42; John 5:8;

Luke 14:10, Thomas 50, Matthew 26:41;

Luke 22:40; Matthew 22.3; John 21.19)

What have you learned from the times when you were the most vulnerable and powerless?

Keep alert, focused and prepared in all your activities.

Live simply; keep energized in the Spirit.
Keep your vision inspired and uplifting.
Receive genuine gifts from others.
Let nobody put you down or keep you from your highest good in God.

And the fruit of righteousness is sown in the peace of them who make peace.
(James 3:18)

Deeds of Holiness

For I was hungry, and you gave me food.
I was thirsty, and you gave a drink.
I was a stranger, and you took me in.
I was naked, and you clothed me.
I was sick, and you visited me.
I was in prison, and you came to see me.
Inasmuch as you have done it unto one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you have done it unto me.
(Matthew 25: 25, 36)

Master your spiritual extremities with insight and with loving deeds of kindness in the world.

Work out your own (salvation) spiritual well being and safe return into the inner worlds with awe and trembling.

Jesus' teachings in the Temple emphasized spiritual enlightenment coming out of sacrifice and service.

Our love of God is expressed through our outreaching love and wisdom given to humanity and all living beings in God's creation.

"Through service we lose some of our freedom and privacy that we may befriend the world and render actual help to universal humanity.”

Holy Monday

Betrayal

And you shall be betrayed, both by parents and brethren, and kinfolk and friends… and you shall be hated by all persons for my name’s sake, but not a hair on your head will perish.

Blessed are you who are persecuted in their hearts for righteousness and goodness, for yours is the Kingdom of Heaven, and you have known the Father in truth…. In your patience, possess your souls.
(Luke 21: 16, 18; Thomas 68, Luke 21:19)

What is one time more than any other when you may have felt betrayed or deserted by others?

Have you ever felt totally alone in the world?

How did God help you to know that you were never left abandoned?

As Jesus went back into Jerusalem to teach the spiritual life of purpose, caring and passionate devotion to the Highest, he may have felt rejected by humans, but in faith he kept on going and giving of himself; thus he moved toward his complete surrender, painful crucifixion and final overcoming.

“Easter points to a milestone passed by humanity through the conquest of Christhood by our Lord. His experience is also the eventuality of every human being.”

Palm Sunday

The Praise of God and the Praise of Humans

Straight is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leads into life, and few are they who find it.. be therefore whole and completed, even as your Father in Heaven is perfect.
(Matthew 7:14; 5:48)

For they loved the praise of humans before the praise of God.
(John 12:43)

For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven that’s my brother, sister and mother.
(Matthew 12:50)

Remember a time when seeming praise or compliments from others turned sour or insincere. Perhaps, temporarily, you felt a bit inflated.
Savor sweet moments fully and briefly.
Keep moving ahead.

How do you handle others’ praise and responses when they may be phony or destructive?

How do you distinguish between God’s praise and man’s praise? Just do your best and give thanks.

Remember how certain persons may be fickle, like the crowds of Jerusalem, for whom “Jesus wept,” for he grieved for those living in darkness, who failed to live out the promise of their own spiritual journey and who refused the gift of Light: God’s infinite Love.

“The bread of God comes in from Heaven and gives life to the world…. My food is to do the will of God that sent me, and to finish God’s work.”
(John 6:33; 4:34)

Christ and Your Authentic Self

Whoever does not split away (separate, de-testify) from one’s father and one’s mother for my way will not be able to be a disciple to me.
(Thomas 101)

Recall a time when you have had to stand up for your position in the midst of authority figures and peers.

How has your need to be true to yourself and your values possibly brought about conflict in your relationships with family and friends?

How have you tried to reconcile this split?

How does Christ help you to be true to yourself while yet loving others in the midst of differences?

And notice how in today’s words of Jesus Christ, the Lord follows them immediately with these words:

“Whoever does not love one’s father and mother for my way will not be able to be a disciple to me.”
(Thomas 101b)

In the midst of all our processes, forgiveness of the past and reconciliation are a must in all relationships.

“When our fondness for others is spiritual, we look beyond the stumbling, awkward habits and the irritating personal flaws to the Shrine of God in them.
This was the secret of Christ’s ability to infuse others with His vision. He called only to Highest in every soul, and from that level souls were changed before Him.
Christ’s incentive was to perfect every human relationship.
His faith is that every family, in its love spiritualized, in each member’s comradeship."

Communion with Christ

Whoever drinks from my mouth shall become as I am, and I myself shall become that person, and the hidden things will be revealed to that individual.

I shall give you what no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, what no hand has touched, what has not yet arisen in the human heart.

Because you have drunk, you have become intoxicated from the bubbling spring that I have tended.
(Thomas 108, 17, 13)

When have you felt a closeness with the Christ?

Describe your most recent experience of inspiration and attunement.

How is your abiding relationship with Christ increasing?

“Treasured beyond telling are glimpses and contacts with the Undaunted One.

In each meeting with Him, two impressions have been most indelibly engraved upon my reverence for Him: Christ’s candor is both penetrating and purifying…. Christ brings us into a oneness with Himself that unifies us forever with His all ensouling love."

Be an Instrument of Light

We have come from the light, from the place where the light came into being by itself, established itself and appeared in their likeness.

The evidence of God in you is motion and rest. Within a person of light, there is light, and it shines on the whole world.
(Thomas 50, 24)

Remember an incident when you made an effort to help bring energies of light into a dark and hopeless situation.

How did conditions change as you made the effort?

How is the Christ helping you to be resilient -to be a stronger instrument of light in the world?

“Let us always be discontented with the little we know and the little we do for Christ.

It is possible to bring Light, Love and Christ Power to lessons of life and emerge victorious.

As the Light of the Victorious Christ increases and transforms the path of human incarnations into a series of resurrections, increasingly uniting us with Christ."

Responding to Those in Difficulty

I am come to seek out and save that which is lost. God has sent me to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, and to set at liberty those who are bruised.
(Luke 10:10; 4:18)

Christ’s love is always outreaching, never passive or neutral.

Recently how have you gone out of your way to reach out to someone in need?

How might this person or situation have been an inconvenience to you?

How might you have felt divine empowerment as you responded to the need?

What good came to you and the other(s) out of the experience?

“As you appreciate and realize the deep meaning of the spirit of Grace and Mercy, you would praise God for all the expressions of grace in this life, and you would strive to practice mercy continually."

Creative Collaboration

For where two or three are gathered together in my name, I am there in the midst of them.
(Matthew 18:20)

Currently, in what areas do you work with a group or one other person on behalf of the good?

Recall a “team effort” that was rewarding for you.

How can you be a better team player?

Seek to collaborate, not compete, control or dominate.

How can you better develop your networking skills in order to share something good with persons and work more creatively together with them?

“As the Path is trodden, how sincerely and how responsibly are others met and treated?… The devotee who is truly dedicated can be trusted with anyone, anywhere, to live highly, purely and worthily. The dedicated soul seeks to lift all by the Light to which he/she is pledged."

Your Words

From my fullness do you ALL receive. The words that I speak to you, they are spirit, and they are life.
(John 1:16; 6:63)

I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.
(Luke 21:15)

Consider the words that you speak. Speak and sing the word, thus empowering your throat center.

Where do your words help and heal, more than hurting or irritating the situation?

What can you do to make your sounds and words more effective?

Speak in the loving clarity of the Christ.

After all, what goes into your mouth will not defile you; rather it is what comes out of your mouth that will defile you.
(Thomas 14)

“Refuse to speak or think negatively and re-phrase each idea into a constructive image."

Service

Well done, good and faithful server… I know your works, your labor and your patient endurance… The only superior among you is the one who serves others… I am among you as the one who serves.
(Matthew 25: 21a; Revelation 2:2; Luke 22: 25, 27)

Call to mind any areas in your life where you currently work or volunteer or help persons or animals in need.

How do you feel the Christ to be present with you in your efforts to be of service?

How much do you love the work that you are now doing?

Labor with love and give your gift joyfully to God.

Identify your deepest soul desires and needs.

“Unlimited possibilities unfold to those who seek a way of serving the Christ."

Harmony and Healing Peace

Peace I leave you, my peace I give to you: not as the world gives, do I give unto you. let NOT your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid…. Peace be unto you.”
(John 14: 27; 20: 26)

Spend some time today praying for improvement and healing in world conditions.

Choose a troubled area or person(s).

Visualize God’s healing and cleansing Light filling these needs and dark holes in ways that are for the highest good of all, not necessarily just what you might wish for personally.

In your prayers keep picturing healing and peace awakening in the world.

Visualize more people rising up for world peace and righteousness.

Pay attention daily to improved conditions; celebrate any progress being made toward harmony and healing.

“…not one sincere prayer escapes His attention when His Name is uttered in it.

Every challenge and crisis and prayer gets through to Him, Who is our Lord."

Finding Your Blind Spots

When you know yourselves then you will be known, and you will understand that you are the children of the living God.

Whoever knows the All but fails to know oneself, lacks everything.
(Thomas 3)

Identify TWO of your greatest weaknesses
or shortcomings (blind spots) as you now are?

How can you redeem and purify these unresolved
or difficult areas in yourself?

How can you view newly and more deeply
with your dark sides as you look to examine them?

1. Study great lives who made a long and deep effort to transform certain weaknesses into the strengths you desire to embody.

2. Meditate and reflect daily upon these qualities to bring them forward in yourself as you release the lesser for the greater.

3. Get around persons who can help you embody these strengths and share your journey with them.

“All obstacles overcome in the true spirit of Christ positivity will forever aid the disciple on the journey upward.

The Christ revealed in Easter that resurrection is as close as we allow our state of consciousness to be.

Illumination is always nearby, waiting for each of us to lift the darkness we have placed over ourselves."

Your Friendships

I call you friends now, for all things that I have heard of my Father, I have made know unto you… Everything that is mine is yours.
(John 15:15; Luke 15: 31b)

Consider carefully your friendship in Christ. If the Christ came to visit you in your home, how would you make him feel welcomed and be a loyal and dependable friend to him?

What do you do for your friends to show how much you love and value them and to help them awaken the Divine Light within them?

How have you taken some friend(s) for granted?

How will you NOW change this behavior?

“The people who love to gather their friends are rare and precious; they are the cement that binds society together.”

“It is our spiritual duty to make each relationship a thing of tender, exquisite beauty and joy. It is our pleasure to make this lifetime a work of art."

A New Dawn

Behold, I make all things new.
(Revelation 21:5)

If any person be in Christ, such a one is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
(2 Corinthians 5:17)

New wine is not poured into old (aged) wineskins, or they might break, and aged wine is not poured into new wineskins, or it might spoil.
(Thomas 47)

In what ways has God made you new so far this month and year?

What habits, feelings and attitudes are dying in you, so that something finer may be birthed?
In Christ you are dying daily into something greater and more radiant.

“Are you eager to put every effort
in the name of Christ?

Every day is a battlefield (arena).

You can surrender (give up) and be carried away, or you can stand and scatter the little enemies that seem so formidable together.

Cheer the victory of Christ and resolve anew to bear the combat with love and courage…"

Harvesting

Go and work in my vineyard. The harvest is great, but the laborers are few…. One sows, and another reaps, that both the one who sows and the one who reaps may rejoice together.
(Matthew 21: 28; Luke 10:2; John 4: 37, 38)

Well done, good and faithful server:
You have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things… I know your works.
(Matthew 25:21: Revelation 3:7)

And let us NOT be weary in well doing: For in due season we shall reap, if we do not faint. As we have, therefore, opportunity, let us do good to all persons…”
(Galatians 6:9, 10a)

Identify an area in your life where you have worked hard. With Christ’s help, what harvesting can you now observe from your previous endeavors?

“We never struggle or fight alone.
The myriad Hosts of Christ support each dedicated effort.
Reach up and feel strength and goodwill surrounding.

The Lord Emmanuel comes….

Reach wide and rejoice!

Vast is the company of the Lord, unconquerable His Power, unquenchable His Love."

Making God’s Works Visible

It isn’t that a person has sinned, nor one’s parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in each individual.
(John 9:2)

You shall know persons by their fruits.
(Matthew 7:16)

Fortunate is the person who has suffered and has found life.
(Thomas 58)

List ONE area of your life that you consider to be the most productive.

How does your bond with the Christ Spirit help you to accomplish good results in your life?

Use the best of who you are to its fullest capacity.
Don’t hide your light.

Lift up into clarity whatever is still distorted or obscured.
Let your light shine to the Glory of God.

“…there is no personal antagonist (devil) we are meeting, only the resistance of past failures….

These resistances should not be allowed to deter us….
Press on patiently against all odds until you reach that level upon which you can serve comfortably and inspiredly."

My words are pruning you.

Abide in me and I in you… The person who shares my life and whose life I share will always be fruitful.
(John 15: 1-5)

This Lent what do you need to prune in your life, so that you may be more clear and fruitful in Christ?

What in you is keeping out the Light of God and preventing beauty and luminosity from expressing itself through you?

“Fast from negativity. Consider what spiritual pruning you wish to do on yourself.”

Pruning negative habits… allows you to come into greater openness to the Holy God Presence."

Overcome Evil with Good !

Violent men are attempting to gain the Kingdom of Heaven by force…. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good… Love one another as I am loving you…. That they all may be ONE.
(Matthew 11:12; Romans 12:21; John 13:34; 17:21)

Being a peacemaker is a most difficult lesson spiritually to learn. When you feel angered or hurt and tempted to retaliate, return good for evil; give a better for something worse.

The greatest sin is deliberate cruelty,
rejection and indifference toward another.

“An eye for an eye leads to blindness.” (Gandhi)

Every life counts in God’s great fabric of creation.
No life ultimately can be eliminated or excluded.
We are all interconnected.
When we help another, we help ourselves.
When we hurt another, we hurt ourselves.

How will you overcome your frustration
with those who hurt or hinder you?
How can you give love instead of gaining revenge?

“We surrender our own desires or preferences for another’s pleasure or need.

We forfeit a lesser attitude so that a nobler one will express its good."

Suffering, Grief and Joy

These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. You shall grieve, but your grief shall be turned into joy. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh. Your heart shall rejoice, and never let any person take your joy from you.
(John 15:11; 16:20; Luke 6:21; John 16:22)

The healing process often moves forward
step by step with inner dialogue in words like these:

1. I deny the feeling(s) or condition (fear, anger, grief, rigidity).

2. I am willing to feel the feeling(s) and talk openly about them.

3. I allow my feelings to surface and find an open voice in me.

4. I will release any anger, but only constructively. I talk to God out loud.

5. I feel my anger turning to tears and grief.

6. I release the sadness I have carried too long in my heart. I let it go.

7. I will do now whatever is necessary to make it better.

8. I begin to feel healing taking place in me.

9. I can now laugh more and feel real joy.

10. I feel more love for all others as I live in the radiance of God’s Love, Mercy, Forgiveness and Grace. I accept myself and others for who they are and are becoming.

In like manner, the Love of God and the inclusive love of the Christ will always receive you. Abide in me and I in you.
(John 15:4)

All are chosen, none is favored; all are invited, none is rejected (except by one’s own decision) in God’s Kingdom of inclusive Love and Goodness.

“Realization causes us to be a part of a vast worshiping throng, (the Company of Heaven) mystically, whenever we practice it."

Describe ways that your relationship with the Christ brings “abundance” into your life.

How is God continuously and abundantly blessing you?

Mention two examples of God’s Grace and provision, which you have experienced recently.

“Be forever expectant of Good. It is this quality of expectancy which gives zest, eagerness and preparedness to living. Invite Good; welcome it and cherish it steadily. let high expectancy become an integral part of your nature.

And never count the cost. Pay whatever price is demanded for inner growth. Do the right because it is right. Waste no time in backward glances, in self-congratulation or self-pity. Meet the cost responsibly and willingly."

Practicing Forgiveness

To whom little is forgiven, that same one loves little.... Forgive the dead in order to bury the dead.
(Luke 7:47; 9:60)

Right NOW, are you holding anything against anybody?

Are you ready to let it go NOW?

Take one new step NOW in the direction of forgiveness.

“Realize where you have unknowingly hardened yourself against (a person or) a situation you find unpleasant. To be free of this situation permanently…, practice forgiveness of the most inclusive kind you can achieve.”

“Compassion has within it both love and sympathy for all living beings. Only one who realizes empathy with others can feel for them and help them without making judgments."

Responding to Your Nemesis

Make peace with your adversary quickly, while you have the opportunity. Love your enemies, bless those who hate you, do good to those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.
(Matthew 5:25; Luke 6:27, 28)

Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your heavenly Father; for God makes His radiance to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous. For if you love just those who love (agree with) you, what reward do you have?…
Be unified with all, be whole and complete, therefore, as your heavenly Father is complete.
(Matthew 5: 55-46a, 48)

Is there ANYBODY OR ANY AREA OF YOUR LIFE that presently you feel to be your enemy? Are you ready now to begin to respond differently from before toward this “enemy”? How will you integrate and lift up what lowers you? What is new in your response?

“When (you) are tempted to be sarcastic, resistant, intolerant and unloving, you are under the influence of the shadow…. Do battle with the (enemy) prayerfully, always trusting for that dark force to be raised into Light."

The Kingdom of God

The Kingdom of God is within you and all around you… Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest… The Kingdom of the Father is spread upon the Earth, and persons do not see it.
(Luke 17:21, John 4:35, Thomas 113)

See and experience the Kingdom in you and in your midst. The Gift has been given ! Awaken it in you !

Take ONE MINUTE now:
list as many blessings and opportunities in your life that you can think of.

Notice the hidden ways that God is enriching and gracing your life in this present moment.

The Great Presence of the loving Father-Mother Creator is always blessing you – so richly and abundantly.

In your union with God, how are you awakening to the Creator’s Kingdom of life and beauty – in you and all around you?

“Christianity...is a way of gladness expectancy, enthusiasm, industriousness, and achievement…. Cultivate the use of joyousness and creativity in order to fulfill our Lord’s wishes for the effectiveness of his teachings."

Welcome

Behold I stand at the door and knock: if any person hears my voice and opens the door, I will come into that one and will feast with that person and that person with me.
(Revelation 3:20)

Whoever welcomes a child in my name welcomes me.
(Matthew 15:5)

Whoever welcomes me, welcomes the One who sent me.
(Matthew 10:40)

Consciously, what are you doing today to welcome others into your life?

Identify Your Thirst !

I Thirst!
(John 19:28)

Whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give one shall be in that person a well of water springing up into everlasting life. if anyone thirsts, Let that person come to me and drink. The one who follows me… will have rivers of living water flowing from his/her inmost heart.
(John 4:14, 7:37-38)

At this moment in your life, for what do you thirst the most?

What is your greatest vision or dream, still unfulfilled?

What are you doing to quench this thirst and fulfill your hunger?

“To be a mystic is to yearn for the Divine like a drowning person longs for air.

And God is wanted for Himself alone, Not for God’s gifts or God’s greatness but because God is God….

Leave this world better than you found it. How much kindness, beauty and improvement will you be able to generate in a lifetime?

Will you care enough for others to set in motion those interests, incentives and events which will enrich their experiences?”

Real Nourishment

For wherever your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Seek the treasure that is unfailing, which endures, where no moth comes near to devour and where no worm destroys.
(Matthew 6:21, 20: Thomas 76)

My food is to do the will of God that sent me, and to finish God’s work.
(John 4:34)

List THREE favorite treasures: interests, activities and/or relationships that energize you and always make you feel good.

How are you nurturing these treasures in your life today?

Increase your investments of energy and time that bring you deep soul joy and fulfillment?

“Each day is priceless. Give it all that you have inwardly so that its hours may be lived creatively, fully and spiritually.”

No Secrets

There is nothing hidden that shall not be revealed, nothing covered up that shall not be uncovered. Ask in my name, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
(Matthew 10:26, John 16:24)

In the intimacy between you and the Christ, is there any burden or memory that you wish to share and release into Divinity’s healing Love and forgiveness? Remember, you did your best at the time. Confess and witness truthfully your life to God, like an open book, shared in trust and hope.

After you have shared anything hidden, how do you feel different inside?

Is there anything that you need to share with another person that you have kept buried inside you?

Now let all that past go, in love and forgiveness. Begin to build a more beautiful life, which you will review when you cross over into the “many mansions of light.”

“We miss so much when we are closed to truth, goodness and loveliness that we fail to perceive…. Envy is love’s opposite because when we love another truly, we rejoice in (one’s) greatness and happiness.”

The Company of Christ

If a person loves me, that one will keep my words: and my heavenly Father will love such a person, and we will come unto that one and make our abode with him (or her).
(John 13:23)

Come unto me all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest and refreshment. My yoke is easy, and my burden is light. I am kind and gentle, humble in heart.
(Matthew 11:28, 29)

Recall a time when you have felt the loving presence of the Christ especially close to you or another.

Describe your feelings of Christ’s nearness.

How do you cultivate attunement to the companioning friendship of Christ and his Company of Heaven in your life?

“Remember continually to uplift your outlook and reactions….

When you think of Christ increasingly each day, He becomes more real and familiar to you…. Tune in upon (the) Lord’s depth of peace, His understanding and spirituality.”

Give Freely and Generously

Freely you have received; freely give. Whenever you give…, do not blow a trumpet before you. (Matthew 10:8; 6:1)

Give, and it will be given unto you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will people give into your lap.

For however you give out to others in like manner will persons deal with you. (Luke 6:38)

Congratulations to those who go hungry, so the stomach of the one in want may be filled. (Thomas 69)

You cannot take it with you; Eventually, you can only give it all away. The joy of loving, learning and sharing awakens and expands your soul.

Today, where can you give more to help a worthy cause or person? By giving generously and by enjoying the process and blessing of joyful sharing, your life will always be abundantly blessed. Such an investment of your treasure is a greater treasure and is never lost.

“The feeling of mutual sustained interest and eventual admiration is the beginning of love. Affection will deepen and expand as we observe and cherish dear ones over the years. Until we know (and give) a universal love for human beings, creatures and growing things, we are deficient in qualities which only love can bring forth.”

Loving God and All Living Beings

You shall love the Lord your God With all your heart, and with all your soul, with all your strength and with all your mind; and your neighbor as your self.
(Luke 10:27)

Loving is listening.
How do you listen and express your love for God each day?

How is your love for God showing itself through deepening sensitivity in your relationships with others?

(Share some examples in your daily journal.)

“The focus of spiritual fire is in the heart; therefore if we desire to stimulate our inner growth, we will (focus) upon the heart (center) for the development and expression of heart qualities.”

Anticipation

Fortunate are (you) who knows where the robbers are going to enter, so that (you) may arise, bring together (your) estate and empower yourself before they enter (your consciousness).
(The Gospel of Thomas 103)

In being patient, don’t wait too long! Look ahead! Avoid procrastinating; NOW is the appointed time.

In areas where you may feel poorly prepared or uninformed, take the necessary steps as soon as they are possible.

Close the gap.

“Return and rebuild the desolate places.” (Malachi 1:4)

Don’t delay, prepare yourself, make room for something important that may be coming, so that you can receive a sudden blessing and greet it in the moment it arrives.

“At Easter love flows (between us and the Christ) in one of two ways:

1. We try to clear space in our hearts to receive Him.

2. We try to give Christ our whole heart. Deeply committed Christians… are trying to empty the heart of everything unnecessary in a love for the Christ, His cause and His humanity.”

Continue to Learn

If you do not know yourselves, then you dwell in poverty, and you ARE poverty.

Whoever seeks will find, and whoever knocks, it will be opened for that person.

Those who seek should not stop seeking until they find.

When they find, they will be troubled; when troubled, they will marvel, and they will rule over the All. (Gospel of Thomas 3; Matthew 7:7, 8; Thomas 2)

Is there something strange or unusual about yourself that you have learned recently?

There is no end to learning; the more you learn, the less you know, and the more you grow.

What do you wish to learn next?

Keep the “seeker” in you alive?

But there is no limit to you as a Divine creation.

In sharing whatever you have learned, you empty yourself to become new.

“Lesser truths supply persons with knowledge…and requirements of the Way. The greater truths, which include the inner side of Festivals, enrich our souls because they instruct us about enlightenments and events which shall bless all who can advance into Christ’s levels of higher consciousness.”

Look at Others with Eyes of Love

Love your brother and sister as your own soul; protect them like the pupil of your eye.
Never be glad except when you look at your brother and sister fellow human beings with love.
(Gospel of Thomas 25; Gospel of the Hebrews 7)

Is there anybody presently in your life whom you cannot look at with eyes of love?

What are you doing to change your view and not remain blinded?

How will you treat this person more lovingly and with deeper compassion as a valuable creation in the family of God?

Are you praying regularly for the person’s highest good in God?

Celebrate others’ successes and pray for their spiritual progress through life.

“Consider those with whom (you) are hostile. A kind word and a sincere smile will soon melt away years of anger, in your own heart if not in your enemies. Feelings of guilt and self-reproach will not make friendship. Deeds of love and gratitude will make for friendship…. of exquisite beauty and joy.”

Be More Flexible to Change

The wind blows where it pleases, and you hear the sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from and where it is going. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.
(John 3:8)

Mystery is a vital part of Divinity. God wishes only our Highest Good. Our Highest Good often appears unexpectedly and strangely – even in disguise.

What is one change that you are facing now?

How are you dealing with the change in the Christ Spirit of spontaneity and flexible response?

Go in the flow and know that your Highest Good is coming to you. Keep your eyes open wide to the panorama of surprise.

“The influence and power of the Christ Spirit have a permanence and strength beyond our knowing.”

Be a Living Example of the Christ's Teachings

I have given you an example that you should do as I have done to you....
If you know these things, happy are you if DO them....
Go and DO likewise. (John 13; 15, 17; Luke 10:37)

Choose ONE quality of the Christ that you admire.

Ex. Helping to redeem the lost and the broken lives in the world with a loving touch

Visualize ways that you can birth this one quality in yourself more powerfully during this year's Lent and beyond?

Take the necessary steps. Keep the picture active.

Embody in beauty the painting of a new life chapter.

"Everything that has life is lifted by the emanating purity, magnificence, and invincibility of our Risen Lord. The Easter season is impregnated with influences from the higher spheres. It is a period that abounds in opportunities. The Supreme Exemplar of all the qualities we yearn to express, urges us toward the development of transmutation and renunciation. When we put ourselves in the sanctuary of meditation and purification, only that element dies in us which was false to begin with.”

Gathering Yourself Together

Gather up the fragments that remain, so that nothing is lost. (John 6:12)

What is still “ungathered” or splintered in you?

How will you begin prayerfully to bring together some of the scattered pieces (voices) in yourself?

EXAMPLE

1. I will take an honest look at my life and relationships.

2. I will dialogue within to harmonize my interior adversaries.

3. I will take a few minutes more often to thank God, the One Who informs my ignorance and resistance.

4. I will celebrate my abilities, and I will use them in more helpful, perceptive, and sensitive ways to integrate my negativity.

“To those who love and follow the Christ Star, Lent offers the opportunity of dedication, by certain actions, to enlarge the power of His influence upon humanity…

When a victory over the lower nature is won, it is due to the depth of one’s reverence for the right and true course.”

Unifying Opposing Energies in Yourself

When you make the two one, and when you make the inner as the outer and the outer as the inner and the above as the below, and when you unify the male and female as a single one…, then shall you enter the kingdom. (Thomas 22)

Identify 1 area of yourself physically, emotionally or mentally, that may be out of balance in you?

Example:
anger vs. compassion or
rigidity vs. flexibility
sensuality vs. affection and friendship

What will you do this Lent to free and unify these opposing energies in you?

You can “lift up” and balance any destructive part of yourself by cultivating its opposite, thus moving toward greater balance, harmony, and more clear and beautiful outlets.

Avoid suppression; transform the shape, image, desire, idea, or vision into an inspiring expression.

“Choose the constructive opposite of the uncovered negative and build it conscientiously into your character structure.”

“Our very willingness to live in God consciousness releases to us all the energies needed to excel.”

Abide in Christ

Abide in me and I in you. (John 15:4)

Split a piece of wood; I am there. Raise the stone, and you will find me there. (Gospel of Thomas 77)

Today, cultivate nearness to the Christ, How will you choose to do this?

EXAMPLES

1. Today I will celebrate Divine Love moving in me and awakening in me the light of the Christ.

2. I will express my love for the Lord Jesus Christ by being kind and more loving toward others.

3. I will invite and welcome the Lord Christ with me as a friend and companion throughout this day and each day ahead.

4. I will look for the Christ shining through all persons.

5. I will remember the Christ continuously; with each breath, I will carry the Christ in my heart and whole being.

“Study the teachings of Christ and contemplate ways in which you may reflect Him and His works.

This continual closeness to Him will refresh and strengthen you and will add fuller meaning to life.”

Mercy

Be merciful, just as your heavenly Father is merciful. (Luke 6:36)

Make the decision ! Identify and release NOW all resentments from the past.

Let any negative feelings drain out of you, like dirty water disappearing down a sink.

Rinse out your mind and feelings with the clear healing waters of forgiveness extended toward all.

Whom do you still need to forgive?

Are you ready? Take the first step now !

Better mercy than eye for an eye, which robs you of your sight.

Even if there are those whom you still may not like, you can love them now as fellow human beings in God's creation. They, too, carry the flame and promise of God’s Spirit within them.

“Thoughts are colored and shaped by our feelings.

We cannot sustain wholesome results if our subconscious is riddled by fear, antagonism or prejudice.”

ASH WEDNESDAY
Begin Lent ! Become Light !

Awareness

(You) have come from the Light, where the Light has originated through itself.... Within a person of light, there is light, and the person lights the whole world.

If you bring forth that (Light) within yourselves, that which you have will save you.

(Thomas 50, 24, 70)

First take the plank out of your own eye, and then you can see clearly enough to remove another person's speck of dust. (Matthew 7:5)

All things whatsoever that you would have persons do to you, do even so to them. (Matthew 7:12)

What is the difference between being discerning and being judgmental?

Identify one area in your life where you need to be more aware, but not judgmental.

Do you feel any sense of division or separation toward anyone at this time? What can you do to heal the distance?

Remaining child-like but not naive, you can bridge the gap;
you can become more insightful, while practicing compassion and inclusive love for all.

Often, what we want to happen suddenly takes a turn or detour.

Life doesn't always turn out the way we expected.
Yet if we do our best and let it go, eventually the best will happen:
God's best, not always "our best."

Make plans, show your intention and see how God takes it

When our eyes and heart view life with wonder, we are inspired.

Find was to lift out of yourself and the routines you follow.

The beautiful and the mysterious are always seeking to invade
your predictable and every day life.

Envision the many kingdoms of life and the Company of heaven -
great Angels and advanced souls in the Light who send you love
and inspiration that is always open to you if you can receive them.

do what you can to mend what is now anxious, separated or alienated.

Sometimes, a simple phone call, note, gesture, touch or prayer
can help to heal what has been lost or forgotten.

Build bridges of love and healing;

Keep learning and studying each day.

Expand your range of interests and deepen in what you now know.

The more we learn, the less we know.

May be replaced tomorrow by a larger vision and understanding.

Nothing in God's universe remains the same or static.
You are a dynamic creation of God with unlimited capacity
to learn and grow.

Awaken: keep learning.

and you will continuously be made new.

Choose carefully what you carry along with you each day.

Find ways to become light.

Let go of the past and all that is no longer useful or helpful,

The ones who seem unlovable also need your nurturing and caring just
as much
as those to whom you may feel the closest.

COMMUNICATE

Better communication leads to deeper communion with God and others.
Be clear and sincere in your words and actions.
Avoid making promises you feel doubtful about keeping.
Make sure that others understand you and your motivations.
Check in with others often,
so that you can be on the same wave length.
Ask questions when there is doubt or uncertainty.
Keep dialogue open.
Keep talking even if you do not get immediate response..
If clarity is lacking, avoid sulking in silence.
Share your feelings, even when it is difficult.
Avoid assuming inaccurate perceptions by inquiring more.
Do not take others for granted.
Their response may be coming from feelings and motivations
very different from what you thought.

Communication is therapeutic and brings healing in relationships.
It is the ointment that closes wounds and alienation.

Aspiration often magnetizes inspiration.
If we don’t reach and stretch ourselves,
we tend to go limp like a worn out rubber band.

Keep reaching into the greater horizon before you.
Learn something new today.
Don’t settle for the easy way.
Always make an effort to surpass yourself of yesterday.

The Great Mystery calls us forward into the unknown.
Life always is offering us more if we are willing to risk.
“Aspire” may mean to be uncomfortable
as we reach into new frontiers of the Spirit that await us.
Now is the appointed time.
If not now, what are we waiting for? Why wait?

FORGIVE

Forgive quickly.
Do everything you can do to make peace with the adversary
while you yet have the opportunity.
Lack of forgiveness or harboring grudges
and negative memories from the past
activates poisons in you that are unhealthy,
sometimes bringing pain and needless suffering.

You cannot change the past.
Everybody did their best, even if you wish it had been different.

Re-direct your focus to what is possible for you today.
Give thanks that you are here and move on to something better.

Decide to forgive very quickly.
You still have time. Release the past with a willing compassion.
You’ll feel better, and your new freedom from enslavement to the past
will make each day
much more enjoyable.

GIVE

Perhaps one of the most challenging responses
is to give of yourself and your possessions,
expecting nothing in return.
The joy of giving in itself offers awakens many mysterious feelings
and responses from others.
Even if others may be suspicious or refuse your gift,
it is ultimately so wonderful to offer what you can spontaneously.

If you do not receive anything in return from the persons
to whom you have given, fear NOT!
A gift, freely given, opens many doors of supply,
often from complete strangers.
Be expectant in your giving, but give with no strings attached..

“Stir up the gift of God within you...,” (2 Timothy 1: 6a)

“Love your enemies and do good and lend,
expecting nothing in return;
and your reward will be great,
and you will be the children of the Most High;
for God is kind (even) to the ungrateful and the hurtful.”

REFLECT

In the midst of life’s busy and pressing hours,
take a small time-out each day, just to reflect.

Let yourself sit back or lie back in a quiet place,
and take in the scene. Breathe in and out slowly and naturally.
Close your eyes if you must,
in order to let scenes and memories surface.
Reflection allows you to let the merry-go-round keep spinning
while you relax and become just an observer, not a rider.

Often, a short time-out, perhaps in a beautiful place in nature,
will allow you to regain a lost rhythm, rest and be re-energized.

Find a quiet place and go there.
A few minutes of leisure are never time wasted.
And as you find renewal and gain strength,
the task may go better as you move later to complete it.

“Come away by yourselves to a secluded place
and rest a while.” (Mark 6: 31)

Good humor, freely expressed,
at nobody’s expense is a tonic
and brings healthy release and joy.

It is so good to laugh.
Try to see the humor and lighter side of what seems so heavy.
Everything comes to pass.
Conditions which now may seem threatening or distressing
will pass, and help will arrive.

Take a little time each day to see the bright side,
not just the heaviness of a situation.
And remember that sometimes it is good to laugh at yourself
as you also love yourself and continue on life’s journey.

(“Then was our mouth filled with laughter.”)

DO GOOD

“...and how He went about doing good
and healing all who were oppressed,
for God was with Him.”
(Acts 10: 38b)

What a privilege it is to be available and helpful to others.
Since we all are created in the image of the loving Creator,
we are all interconnected, and it is our true nature to be loving.

Virtue is its own reward.
Our gift of life is to receive from the infinite Presence of God
and share what we are given
and gie out what we are awakening in ourselves
from God’s quickening Spirit moving in us.

Do all you can with all that you are and all you have,
and every day will bring you surprises and deep fulfillment.

SING

You don’t have to have a special voice to SING.
It is a great joy to make a joyful noise for god
each day you are here on this beautiful planet.
It is important for you to tell your story
and make your music.
Your melody is unique,
one chord in the great symphony of unfolding life
different from all others.

Your song helps to make God’s music better known.
The beautiful music you sing with your life example
can also inspire others to sing their song
and be a blessing to the glory of the Creator.

“Make a joyful noise unto the Lord.” (Psalm 98: 4)

LISTEN

Often, it is best to wait before speaking.
It is helpful to be interested enough in others to hear them out
before jumping in or uttering words that may be premature
or ill-timed.
Today, you can find a new and deeper interest
in listening.
Listen also in between the words someone is speaking.
Pay attention to the silence
in between the words you hear.

“And swhen they heard
that he was addressing them...,
they became even more quiet.;” (Acts 22:2)

RISE

In your continuous journey in God,
life always calls you to rise: to reach
and aspire.
You are always potentially capable beyond your imagination.
God has created you with unlimited capacities
and talents for you to develop and share in caring service.

If you have momentary setbacks,
remember you have done your best.
“Take up your bed and walk” on.
Get up, show up and rise into your finest hours ahead.
There is no end to the possibilities that lie ahead for you.

“I will arise and go to my Father...” (Luke 15: 18)
“...Rise up and walk.” (Luke 5: 23)
